Actor Yul Edochie abandons presidential ambition

Yul Edochie, Nollywood actor and movie director, says he has shelved his presidential ambition.

The filmmaker said he arrived at the decision after extensive consultation.

In a post on Instagram, Edochie urged his fans not to worry, saying he is still “committed to building a new Nigeria”.

He said: “After due consideration and consultations, I will no longer run for president of Nigeria, 2019.

“To my supporters, worry not.

“I remain committed to building a new Nigeria that works for all, irrespective of class, tribe or religion.

“Together we shall achieve. God bless Nigeria.”

Edochie contested the November 2017 Anambra governorship election on the platform of the Democratic Peoples Congress (DPC).
He ran against 36 other governorship aspirants, including the eventual winner, Willie Obiano. The actor secured only 145 votes in the election.
Edochie was later appointed senior special assistant on creative and entertainment media to the Anambra governor.
